Forum: etree Subject: Steve Irwin - RIP

This has nothing to do with the LMA - but my condonences to Steve Irwin's Family. Myself and my kids used to love watching the Crododile Hunter and he will be sorely missed. He died doing what he loved doing - his passion - which will probably be more than what the rest of us will do as we pass to the next life. RIP Steve - you did good!

"His loss will be felt by animal lovers not just in Australia, but all over the world." Queensland Museum director Dr. Ian Galloway described Irwin as "a dedicated naturalist who was actively committed to highlighting the plight of threatened species, and championing the cause of conservation. Steve Irwin was a special person whose energy and enthusiasm encouraged a whole new audience to better understand and become involved in conservation and science. He will be sorely missed."

the world just lost a great man :(

Are you serious man??? that is one hell of a gesture toward a wonderful hospital. My sister will be thrilled since those people are close to her heart. I am very happy too - that hospital is wonderful in what they do for the children of this area - and others of course).
(i know this "sounds" callous - but put it in your name for tax purposes, you deserve the break from the irs - i am not being sarcastic or rude etc - hope it didnt come across that way - i am seriously happy for what you just did - believe me you made a difference).
Thank you again lastcall!!!! - i feel like a schmuck for going off on you the other night after a few (several) beers - you were right - only expressing your opinion. my apoligies again. Wow, something good came from that disaster of a thread - lol - your generosity is really appreciated (made my day too - thanks)

I think it's a fine line between science and explotation. Perhaps it was a corp. idea to risk the life of an infant in the filming of a segment, but I'll never comprehend that he agreed to go along with the concept of the footage of holding a baby while fucking around with a large crock. That's not a thrill seeker. It's an attention seeker.

well lets bash a dead person who actually made a name for himself. not just anyone can walk up and tackle a croc or swim with stingrays for that matter he was good at wat he did . accidents happen. ever smoke a cig in front of a kid. thats bout the same as holdin your kid while feeding a croc that btw has been in captivity and is used to a human being around him. mike jackson held his kid over a rail 4 storys high, britney spears drives with her kid in her lap .lets wait till they die to bash them .if we all respected each other we wouldnt have the troubles in life we have now. think of it this way at least he didnt die becuz he was a junkie no pun intended peace

Feeding a croc. thats been in captivity isn't risky? Pleeeeeeeeeeez come on down to the Glads and we can settle this. Just don't bring the kids. The last thing they need to see is their mom or dad loose a limb. Or their life.

So you have a dog that want's to kill everything in sight? Should you be allowed to raise a child? If you can't train a dog, you certainly should not be the caretaker of a child.

ever own an akita? it is a hunting dog and since i had acreage for him to run free, he always hunted. he never bothered any ppl. he was a ppl dog but his natural instinct is to hunt. my rottweiler(140 pounds) wasnt even as big as the akita .neither would harm a person but animals that run free are all fair game. due to us greedy humans imposing on wildlife territory or lazy ppl who wont walk their pets but let them run free in other ppls yards. as for kids i never left any kids alone with any of my dogs. just becuz its "domesticated" dont mean it wont attack in self defense or have your kid as a meal. as an animal lover ive seen even the smallest of dogs attack kids includin chihuahuas. so mr education look it up see wat all dog reports say. im non violent these days sir but someday you will challenge the wrong person and i feel bad of wat could happen. ppl with aggression issues should prolly seek help. i can help by sayin mellow out brother. keep your personal views to yourself and respect others. youll live a happier life that way. peace

Also for giggles...have you ever heard Adam Sandlers "Toll Booth Willie" skit? Its from about 94 on an album called "they are all gonna laugh at you". You remind me of it saying you wanna kick but even with a bad leg.
Also.... I love wild animals! they are delicious! I dont know so much about petting em but from time time I do dream of smokin em with my bow!..Now before anyone lets go of their tree and wants to start hatemailin...shut up because I dont trophy hunt..I hunt to feed my family...and thats it!
RIP Steve.

Hey man - thanks - prognosis is excellent - i dont even remember why i mentioned him - i gotta leave my family out of these threads when i go on an extended rant (which was fun, but i went back and edited alot out before diana slapped me upside the head - lol)

I have heard Sandler's skit - hilarious - just heard it again a month or so ago. funny my rant made you think of it. i couldn't beat up my kitten in my condition - lol.
I love the Carrie "theyre going to laugh at you" skit too - too damn funny.

When i first read your post - i thought you typed you liked to "smoke em with your bowl" - i was thinking there was something seriously wrong with you - atleast it gave me a laugh. Glad you don't trophy hunt - i don't hunt at all (don't think i could do it but some friends do) - but i certainly have no problems with using/eating what you kill. I love venison!! Bow hunting must be pretty cool - nobler than a gun in my opinion - damn tougher too from what ive heard.
Atleast i have an indication of where you got your screen name :)

Hey Folks - Click on lastcall and read his/her history of contributions here. He/She's a downer. Almost always negative. I bumped into lastcall here about a week ago, he/she was telling a new poster to "take his head out of his a**". This new poster was asking about the origin of the Rhino references. A completely valid and non-contraversial question. Yet, the poster was "jumped" for lack of knowledge.

Lastcall said he/she would show some courtesy, but that, obviously, didn't last...

If you read my initial post to this thread you'll find that It was my opinion of certain behavior. Are you saying that you'd allow an "expert" to hold your infant while teasing a wild animal (or tamed for that matter)? And about the "pull your head out of your ass" remarks. Someone who post's about a search problem and asks "do I smell a Rhino" is just trying to fan the flames. I got the impression that this person knows the current policy and was only being an ass. I'll defend my right to my opinion. I'll also defend yours.

OK, I had a different impression of the rhino-question-poster.

Dangling babies over animals is not wise. No disagreement there. Adults are to be trusted to make better choices. Risks should be taken by those who have a say in the matter. Infants shouldn't skydive either.

BUT, when it comes to fanning flames, lastcall is like a bellows.

Am I wrong?

I agree, this thread fell-apart. However, look at all the action it caused. Don't feel too badly. Obviously people had alot to say about Mr Irwin and his career.

My problem is with anybody who posts for the sake of stirring the pot. If you post your true beliefs and the thread goes nuts, so be it. But slinging poo at folks with real opinions and concerns just to get a reaction is NOT what this forum is about. No opinions should be banned, but rhetoric must be self-policed.

This message is directed to ALL LMA users and not toward any individual poster. No offense intended.

yeah, i read the same thing too. the pain must have been jawdropping. although several docs said he would have died regardless - the poison went strait into his heart and there would have been virtually no hope either way - pure freakish accident - and a goddamn shame in my opinion. at least he diddn't die doing something stupid like dui crash - he died doing what he loved best - just a horrific roll of the dice - its not like rays are aggressive beasts - ive swum with bull rays and they are amazingly gentle, come right up to you and rub against you - freakish at first, but they rarely rarely attack. my heart just goes out to he and terry's poor kids - but altleast they know their daddy died being a hero of environmentalism and conservation. more than my kids will be able to say when i go - damn shame. i think it is high time to do something special with my life!

Was Irwins death just bad luck or instant Karma?
I say ya gotta die of something, he died doing what he loved, God bless him and RIP!
Imo, he pushed the envelope a bit much, i noticed it in his program (like with the Mamba) but it was his call.

Children are innocent
A teenager's fucked up in the head
Adults are even more fucked up
And elderlies are like children
Will there be another race
To come along and take over for us?
Maybe martians could do
Better than we've done
We'll make great pets!

dude you are right on - last call... don't judge when you don't know the situation - he was in complete control of the baby-croc filming - dont talk about what you dont know - there was no danger - my kids have petted crocs before in festivals with the "trainer" present but not on top of them. - he wasnt' stupid - those situations are not as bad as they look trust me. the media sensationalized it - not steve.

nagdot - you are right - smoking with your kids is far more dangerous - i do it - shame on me - although im usually outside or have the house fan on. Steve was a pioneer. last call is way off base. if more of us were like him, this world just might be a better place to live from an environmental point.

btw last call - what is the latest thing you have done for our environment or environmental education. let me know.

First of all, I thinks its insane to have a croc. at a festival. Second of all I find it insane to fall into that carnival mood to let a baby get even close to such a undomesticated animal. "The Trainer" you speek of is as foolish as anyone who would allow their child to "pet" a wild animal.

ever take your kid to a petting zoo those are technically domesticated wild animals. i think all of our points are this is a man who could be entertaining and a teacher at the same time he didnt waste his life on drugs or commit crimes. i learned a lesson today . even the most trained person can have an accident and accidents happen. instead of bashing the man why dont you shut your mouth and revel in wat he brought to us, regardless of mistakes he made .you'll need compassion someday hopefully no one will bash you or yours in time of need

NO! Never taken my children to a "Petting Zoo". There are plenty of activities for the children to LEARN than the roadside explotation action that the lazy take their kids to.

i must respectfully disagree my friend - not as dangerous as you think (im work in insurance - dogs are far more of a problem - even "domesticated" breeds) - i want my kids to experience it all. guess im just a bad father in your eyes. sorry you feel that way, but you are entitled to your opinion - peace

With all due respect, I'm sure you are a great parent. But if you visit FL., please observe the signs that ask you "Do not feed the animals" The reason is obvious, when a human feeds a wild animal, that animal associates humans with food and therefore all humans become prey.

i hear ya - and i understand - the ones that were at our festival were not quite like the gators in the florida parks. i agree - all wild animals can have a tendency toward aggression. the ones at the festival were purposefully tired out and stuffed to the gills - talked to the trainer. but i do know waht you mean. i do want my kids to experience the exotic if possible though - i try my best to be safe - they are my life - dont think i overstpped my philosophy.

in any event - i thinks think steve was great and a phenomenal teacher and spokesman for the parts of the environment that aren't so "cute."
peace man
